First of all I want to say how much I like the way the rock slider steps look and how solid they appear to be. However the installation did not go as advertised.
I watched the installation video before I installed them, and although it was generally useful, there were some details that I think would have been useful. First of all the installation kit did not appear to be complete. The video said there were suppose to be two drill bits included (a pilot and the finishing bit). There was only one bit in my kit and it was CRAP. Then there was a flag nut and another bolt that were included, but no mention of what they were suppose to be used for. Eventually I think I figured out where they were suppose to be used (on the top front drivers side there is already a hole in the frame), but it would have been nice to know for sure. Then there were the "self taping bolts". It is my opinion that these like the drill bits were CRAP for self taping. The first one I did was VERY difficult to drive into the hole, I used an impact (like they did in the installation video) and once I did, it would not come out. It backed out about a 1/4" and then just spun and would not back out. After calling Turn and talking to them, they had no other suggestion than to cut it off and pound what was left out of the hole. The problem with that was that it would not pound through. Based on this I did not want to take any more chances with those self taping bolts and I bought a tap to taped the remaining holes. BTW, when I talked with TURN they told me those bolts were M10x1.25, but they were not, they were M10x1.5, good think I checked before purchasing the tap. In addition, once I drilled and taped the holes, three of them did not line up. I had to elongate the holes in the brackets of the step to get the bolts in. I'm sure there will be some that will say it is my fault, and I am sure it is, but that speaks to the ease of the installation for a DYIer. Once all of the installation was complete, I like the way they look, they seem VERY strong and well built, but I did not experience the ease of installation that that they advertised. BTW the sawed off bolt is still there in my frame, I was not able to remove it, so there is one hole without a bolt in it.
