This project was over my head so I took it slow (two weekends) and got stuck a couple times--couldn't disconnect wires, couldn't get the body trim back in--but they talked me through it. Fit and alignment is perfect. The carrier is rock solid.
Follow the installation video. You definitely have to remove the taillight and passenger side panels to adjust the tailgate tilt angle. Remove them before you install the reinforcement, it is way easier because the stopper on the hinge will block the panel later.
The HD carries is impressive. San Tan Ford installed it, and the techs and service writers were highly impressed.
Love the tire carrier! I personally think it's the best on the market non-bumper mounted tire carrier!
I was wanting a heavy duty system to handle my heavy packing for camping trips plus the weight of a 37” spare and not worry about it. The RucRak design required a hitch bar that killed departure angle, and I really wanted something that could support the weight of the RucRak plus a cooler, and do it solely from the tire mount so that I could do away with the support bar altogether.
I looked at swing away carriers, was not a huge fan of any of them, but they would accomplish what I wanted.
Then I remembered Turn’s reinforcement that replaced the puny stock hinges with sleeved ones.
Very happy with the purchase, install was easy, and stout.
